The
Nicolás
Gutiérrez Academy is the community
activists area, bioethics, human
rights, and history of medicine aspects of our Society. It
is named after Dr. Nicolás J.
Gutiérrez who founded the Real
Academia de CienciasFísicas,
Médicas y Naturales de La
Habana en 1861 and began
publishing the Annals of the Academy of Sciences in Cuba in
1864. Dr. Gutierrez was a surgeon and professor of medicine
at the University of Havana.
